The most powerful aspect of the experience each year for me is the opportunity to see God at work and to experience a time where I have aligned in purpose with Him. The ‘coincidences’ are astounding!

Going to El Faro in Guatemala was a great experience for me. It gave an opportunity to distance myself from all the distractions of my everyday life and think about what really matters in life. I had the opportunity to hear what God had done in the lives of the people there to bring them to El Faro. It made think about my relationship with God and how it can grow and become stronger. El Faro and the surrounding village and cities left a lasting impact on my life and I will never forget my time there.

Who remembers listening and singing this song at the top of our lungs on our way to the hot springs? I know it’s a very fond memory in my own mind. To start off, I’d just like to say that I miss each and every one of you so very much. It’s been a little over a year and a half since we’ve all been together in El Faro, but the memories are still fresh in my mind. I hope you all still think of our time in Guatemala, as I do every day. With this post, I am hoping to encourage all of you a little bit today. I encourage you not only to remember the good times we’ve shared there, but also to remember the grace and goodness of our Lord Jesus Christ. Remember Tuesday night when we sang worship songs as Brenda and Ana and Silem led us? Remember the very obvious presence of Jesus as we worshiped Him on the dock? Remember the times spent at the elderly home and orphanage? I can remember Big Lu bonding with a particular little boy. Remember the baptism? I remember this as one of the best moments on the trip. Remember how happy our hearts were as we sang and listened to the testimonies of people around us? Keep in mind that these people were people who we’d only met 6 days earlier, yet we shared an inexplicable bond. I can tell you for sure that the reason for that bond was because God is good and He wanted good things to happen on that trip. In Him, they did. Rejoice in the goodness of God! Be glad in Him! I know life gets hard and busy and we often forget how good He is to us, so that is why I am writing this post this morning, all the way from Minnesota. (; I love and miss you all more than words can explain.

Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples! Psalm 96:3  When it came time to pack up to leave on Friday, it was with a heaviness that only comes when you leave something you love dearly. Guatemala had definitely found a place in my heart, and I think I can speak for our team when I say we will forever be changed by our week at El Faro.
